Founded by Kate Bass, Expansion Lab is a creative systems studio exploring new forms of collaboration between humans and machines. Rooted in Kate’s background as a composer and cultural strategist, the Lab develops artist-led frameworks for AI interaction that prioritize meaning, dignity, and human connection.
The Lab’s work includes conceptual frameworks such as Recursive Coherence Logic (RCL), which examines how coherence emerges within complex collaborative systems.
Its first prototype, FieldLog, is now in early pilot testing.

Δσ Recursive Coherence Logic: A Formal System For Symbolic Transformation Across Emotional Contexts (OSF Preprint)
This preprint introduces a formal logic framework that models emotional-symbolic transformation across time. Addendums accessible at “Files” tab on project website.
𝄡 What Artists Know That AI Needs
Artistry as infrastructure: translating story, emotion, and structure into system logic.
Research Areas
Expansion Lab explores emerging frameworks for creative collaboration across systems, including:
• Recursive Coherence Logic (RCL) – a conceptual framework for understanding collaboration between humans, systems, and creative processes.
• FieldLog – documentation tools for observing creative interaction across cultural and technological contexts.
• Creative Systems + AI – research into how artistic processes can inform new, ethical and privacy-preserving models of collaboration between humans and artificial intelligence.
